First online defence of diploma dissertation in Lublin

An extraordinary situation requires special measures. On April 21, 2020, students of the University College of Enterprise and Administration in Lublin (WSPA) in the field of Computer Science defended online engineering work in front of their computer monitors. Five students passed the exam, all received the title of an engineer.

How does online defence look like?

The diploma exam took place via the MS Teams tool. The members of the examination board joined the examined students in a videoconference system at a scheduled time. Students discussed their diploma theses, having the opportunity to present them on a shared screen. They also answered the committee's questions in accordance with established procedures.

In a similar way, the Catholic University of Lublin organised a doctorate defence on Saturday, April 18, 2020. It was the first online defence of doctoral dissertation in the history of KUL.

Other universities are also preparing to defend their titles in a remote form. From Wednesday, April 22, 2020 they have the green light from the ministry to carry it out. Lublin universities are in the process of developing procedures, but technically nothing prevents future engineers, bachelor or masters from defending themselves online.
