Lublin opts for Hydrogen buses
30.06.202108:21

Lublin has been continuously investing in the development of an emission-free fleet. The city plans to purchase a hydrogen-powered bus with a refueling installation. A letter of intent was signed on June 23 to secure continuity of hydrogen supplies. This is the first, necessary step preceding the tender procedure for the purchase of this type of public transport hydrogen-powered vehicle.

Lublin has been investing in a modern fleet and developing sustainable along with ecological transport for years. The hydrogen vehicle purchase for Lublin will increase the share of emission-free public transport in the city. It will also enable to obtain the necessary experience in the usage of hydrogen buses which demand for will grow in the coming years. We want Lublin to be the first city in Poland where the eco-hydrogen-powered bus will serve the public transport line - says Krzysztof Żuk, Mayor of Lublin.

Later this year, the city intends to announce a tender for a hydrogen bus supply. The vehicle will probably appear in Lublin in 2023. It will be a low-floor bus equipped with monitoring, air conditioning and a ticket vending machine. The vehicles run only on electricity and produce no tailpipe emissions—they only emit water vapor and warm air. Therefore, a zero emission bus emits no waste products that pollute the environment or disrupt the climate.

Lublin apart from purchasing a hydrogen bus, intends to carry out other tasks namely obtaining stationary and mobile ticket machines as well as facilities for the bacteria, fungi and viruses neutralization including SARS-COV-2. Hydrogen is considered an alternative fuel under the Energy Policy Act of 1992 and qualifies for alternative fuel vehicle tax credits.

Lublin scored the highest in the report of green cities. We wrote about it earlier in June 2021.
