Lublin recognised with prestigious Smart City Award

Lublin has been rewarded with highly prominent Smart City Award for implementing a comprehensive 3D model of a city. The award was granted during the 11th Smart City Forum. Lublin stood out from other cities in the 100 – 500 thousand residents category. The Smart City competition promotes projects and/or individuals that have significantly contributed to building smart cities in Poland, through unique and innovative approach or solutions. The awards are given to the representatives of the business sector or local administration, whose projects contribute to the increase of competitiveness of a given city in or outside Poland.

Three-dimensional model, which was created to meet Lublin needs, is the next stage of building an intelligent city and can be used in both participatory and urban development activities. For years, we have been working on making Lublin smart, and thus making it more attractive to residents and investors. The award confirms that it is a step in the right direction – says Krzysztof Żuk, Mayor of Lublin.

Lublin has been awarded for the implementation of a comprehensive 3D model of buildings in the international standard (cityGML technology) used, among others by Berlin and Helsinki. The model provides three-dimensional visualizations of urban objects, landform, layers of greenery etc. It allows to produce expert materials as required (environmental studies, solar potential of buildings, noise distribution, impact on the immediate environment, and the like). The 3D model has been based and integrated with the existing 2D map tools, so new buildings’ design will be easier, more transparent, and intuitive.
