The U23 World Championship in 3x3 basketball in 2023 will be played in Lublin following the decision of International Basketball Federation FIBA! It will be a major event for the inhabitants of Lublin and all basketball fans from all over Poland, Europe and the world.
FIBA and the Polish Basketball Association (PZKosz) announced at a press conference on December 16, 2021 that Lublin will be the best place to host the championship in 2023 while the city is the European Youth Capital. The U23 World Cup is a yearly competition.
The U23 World Championship in 3x3 basketball will be an extremely important sporting element of a year-long celebration programme of the European Youth Capital 2023 to be held in Lublin. I am convinced that this spectacular type of basketball will arouse strong interest among the fans. Moreover, I am delighted that Lublin has once again been entrusted with the organization of a sports event of international significance. This means that we are a recognizable and respected partner of sports events at the highest level. We were the city - the host of the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in 2017, the FIFA World Cup in 2019, and we are currently applying for the European Women's Championship organisation in 2025. At this point, our consistently excellent cooperation with the Polish Basketball Association and President Radosław Piesiewicz deserves to be highlighted - says Krzysztof Żuk, Mayor of Lublin.
The U23 World Championship in 3x3 basketball has been played twice so far - in 2018 and 2019 in China.
