Theatre Confrontations International Festival 2021

Theatre Confrontations International Festival 2021
17.09.202110:42

This year’s edition of the festival will be held between September 23 – October 25 under the slogan “Want to see more”.

Theatre Confrontations 2021 is primarily a presentation of excellent performances, specially selected for the Lublin audience. The programme includes small-scale performances that have not been overshadowed by monumental productions in the recent years. The pandemic made us look for silence, intimacy, distance and especially important for us – social topics in the theatre. During this month, we will see, among others “Apocalypse” by Michał Borczuch from Nowy Teatr in Warsaw. For the first time at one festival, two adaptations of the novel by Édouard Louis, one of the most important French writers of the young generation, will be presented: “End with Eddy” by Anna Smolar and the excellent “History of Violence” by Ewelina Marciniak.
Lublin audience will also see “Fatalist. Singer’s Story in V Acts ” - a performance from the Warsaw Dramatic Theatre. Its text, written by an outstanding playwright – Tadeusz Słobodzianek, is the end of a trilogy that includes the performances we presented in the past: ”Our class” and “The Story of Jacob”. Among the titles that we will see during the festival are “Ginczanka. A recipe for the simplicity of life“ from Łaźnia Nowa,”Nora” of Osterwa Theatre in Lublin and the performance of Weronika Szczawińska “Simply”. The programme also includes two productions of Theatre Confrontations created as part of last year’s series “What Next?”: “I’m Going” by Anna Gryszkówna with the wonderful Anna Moskal and “Bezmatek” by Marcin Libera. There will also be events that treat the theatrical convention more loosely and unique meetings, also online.
The Theatre Confrontations International Festival was established in 1996 on the initiative of the representatives of the Lublin theatre fraternity, originally associated with the Young Theatre Confrontations project, Janusz Opryński, Leszek Mądzik, Włodzimierz Staniewski, and Tomasz Pietrasiewicz. In its early framework, the artists themselves formed the Programme Council. The following editions of the festival relied upon the original ideas of the so-called “artistic commissioners.”
