Carnaval Sztuk-Mistrzów, 24-27 July, Lublin
22.07.201414:08

“The new circus art has found a large audience in Lublin and has become one of the flagship cultural events of the city. Each edition of the festival brings a huge load of extraordinary art which inspires the audience and perfectly suits the city image strategy,” says Krzysztof Żuk, Mayor of the City of Lublin.
Carnaval Sztuk-Mistrzów will be officially opened by the Great Juggling Parade on Thursday, 24 July. The parade will start at 8 p.m. in front of the City Hall at Plac Łokietka and will lead to Ogród Saski [the Saxon Garden] where a spectacular acrobatic-dance show “Prometeusz” [Prometheus] will be presented at 9:30 p.m. The spectacle is produced by the Wrocław based Biuro Festiwalu Impart 2016 [Impart 2016 Festival Office] and Agencja Artystyczna EVEREST [Art Agency EVEREST].
The day before, 23 July, an interdisciplinary scientific conference “Nowy cyrk i sztuka w przestrzeni publicznej” [New circus and art in public space] will be held at Teatr Stary [Old Theatre]. The conference will be attended by remarkable representatives of science, theatre and circus. The next day, 24 July, the conference will turn into “fairs” where all participants will get the chance to present their activity to the wide range of public.

Starting from 23 July, Klub Festiwalowy [Festival Club] by the Lublin Castle grounds will be open at 10:00 p.m. - 12:00 midnight offering entertainment programme including live concerts.

During Otwarte Warsztaty Kuglarskie [Open Juggling Workshops] at the Lublin Castle grounds on Friday, 25 July, at 11:00 a.m. - 5 p.m., everyone interested will have the opportunity to participate. PGNiG [Polish Oil and Gas Company] took its patronage over the event. At the same time and place, the youngest Lublin citizens will be able to visit Europejskie Centrum Bajki [European Tale Centre]. And at Plac Litewski, starting from 4 p.m., children will have the chance to play at Klanzowe Miasteczko Zabaw Niezwykłych [Klanza’s City of Unusual Games].

Also on Friday, at the Crown Tribunal square, near Atelier Idlozi street photography, the „Fatalia’s Hypnotic Pendulum” will be set up. This offer, patterned on the XIX century cabinets of curiosities, is addressed only to those who have the nerves of steel.

As previously, the streets of the city centre will become the places of unusual cultural events. On Friday, the shows will start at 4 p.m. and will last till 10:30 p.m. Particularly recommended is the show by a contemporary Spanish harlequin Karcocha entitled “Urban Imbalance,” which will be presented at 4 and 7:30 p.m. at Plac Litewski, and an impressive and bloodcurdling show “Les Pepones” by a French group Les Lendemains. Presented at 9:30 p.m. at Plac Zamkowy, the French show will present flying trapezes hung 13 metres above the people’s heads.

On Saturday and Sunday, 26 and 27 July respectively, the Carnaval Sztuk-Mistrzów will last continuously from 11 a.m. till midnight. That weekend, Lublin citizens and visitors will see around 30 artistic groups from 12 countries.

Traditionally, throughout the Carnaval it will be possible to watch highliners’ shows performed above the people’s heads within the framework of the event called “Urban Highline”. These shows will be held on ten lines hung around the Crown Tribunal in the Old Town and above ul. Wieniawska: here the 60, 80 and 55 metres-long lines will be hung between the buildings of the Lublin Municipal Office and Marshal Office of the Lubelskie Region approximately 50 metres from the ground.

As usually, there will be many additional attractions. The Carnaval participants yearning for rest will have the chance to relax by the fountain at Plac Litewski where a sand zone and deckchairs will be placed on the occasion of the festival. This year’s attraction will be a specially arranged 4-days outdoor lighting enhancing architectural values of Lublin tenement houses from Thursday, July 24, till Sunday, July 27. The Crown Tribunal and surrounding tenement houses will enlighten the Old Town market every day from dusk till 3 a.m. The Carnaval Sztuk-Mistrzów lighting producer and this edition’s partner is Philips Lighting Poland S.A.
