Planting of trees, shrubs and bulbous plants for new lawns in spring is the new initiative by the Lublin authorities and the district councils to be performed within the next few weeks. In autumn, the City Landscape Architect is going to revitalize 3 squares too, as well as introduce more greenery on 4 roundabouts. Apart from that, in the next year, planters with trees and shrubs, flower designs and plant compositions will crop up on junctions.

A friendly, green, clean and safe city is one of priorities in my present term in office, those objectives have made their way into the Contract for Lublin which I committed myself to execute. It is very much in our interest to revitalize and create attractive public space, where Lublin residents would willingly spend their leisure time and feel comfortable – says Krzysztof Żuk, Mayor of Lublin City

A total of 220 trees, 1650 of shrubs, 300 running meters of hedges and 235 perennial plants are going to be planted throughout 12 districts of the city as part of autumn sowing. What comes as a novelty is that those plants will be arranged in special compositions, as opposed to merely planting them individually. Thanks to the commitment of District Councils, students at the University of Life Sciences as well as City Libraries the end result would be cosy places, which could also function as reading rooms in the open air. Initial projects will be piloted in the vicinity of libraries at Judyma, Bursztynowa, Krężnicka and Szaserów streets. These activities are to continue in the following year. In spring, Lublin residnents will witness planting of bulbous plants. At Solidarności Avenue just at the junctions with Dolna 3 Maja Street and Lubomelska Street a total of 33 000 crocuses and narcissus will appear, which will be planted in strips 1m x 35m on an area of 840 m2.

Thanks to the cooperation with the Głusk District Council, a square in the district is being done up. In autumn it will be covered with new plants. In turn, Wieniawa District Council is engaged in revitalization of the square in Skautów Street. Works are to be finished next year. What is more, planting of shrubs and perennials will be carried out on the square by Szare Szeregi Street. Even more greenery is going to be introduced on four roundabouts in the city. The latter being 27 Wołyńskiej Dywizji Piechoty AK roundabout at the junction of M. Smorawińskiego and Kompozytorów Polskich; Generała Franciszka Kamińskiego roundabout at the junction of M. Smorawińskiego and T. Szeligowskiego; Narodowych Sił Zbrojnych roundabout at the junction of Nadbystrzycka and Jana Pawła II and Zrzeszenia Wolność i Niezawisłość roundabout at the junction of Filaretów and Jana Pawła II. Students of the Institute of Landscape Architecture of Catholic University of Lublin are the authors of those projects. More greenery will be introduced within the city by means of placing planters with trees and flower compositions next year. New planters and flower compositions will be added to already existing ones in the city centre on the following streets: Krakowskie Przedmieście, Wolności Square, Narutowicza / Okopowa Street, Narutowicza / Lipowa Street and Zielona Street already covered with planters and Zamkowy Square, Królewska Street, Wolności Square, Krakowskie Przedmieście Street, Kapucyńska Street with the flower arrangements.

The Authorities of the City want to engage Lublin residents and property owners in introducing more greenery and decorating the city with flowers. Those willing may take care of the flower compositions provided by the authorities and may place them on their property, say at the entrance to the shop, to a tenement house, to an office or to a restaurant. The duties to fulfil would be watering and fertilizing the plants. Those willing to avail of this offer are invited to contact Office of the City Landscape Architect at +48 81 466 26 80. As part of the project “A place for You”, small areas of an aesthetic significance for the city will be renovated. Works will involve introducing the elements of small architecture, planting and repairing of road surfaces. New designs are being developed regarding land use at the following streets: Lipowa, Głęboka, Raabego, Hempla and Bernardyńska. Planting within lanes is to continue in the following year. In the place where the planting of trees is impossible due to underground infrastructure, compositions made of shrubs, perennials or bulb plants are going to appear. Design works on the planting at 15 junction points, that are already in process, are to be continued next year. In 2016, plant compositions are going to appear at 4 entry roads to Lublin. (coming from Warsaw and Zamość direction (al. Witosa), coming from Mełgiew direction (ul. Mełgiewska), and from Przemyśl direction (ul. Abramowicka).
