Intelligent Traffic Management System to be developed
17.03.201513:26

“Traffic management is the project element as important as the purchase of new rolling stock or expansion of the overhead contact line network. We pose a considerable challenge to the contractor as we want the system to be finished by the end of the year. We are cooperating with an experienced and reliable company and we can be optimistic about the deadline of that investment,” said Krzysztof Żuk, Mayor of the City of Lublin.
Warsaw-based Qumak S.A. company will develop the system for an estimated total cost of PLN 27,921,000.
The system will include over 60 crossroads with traffic lights, which accounts for about half of such devices in the city. Over 20 of the selected signal-controlled junctions will be modernized comprehensively. All of the traffic lights included in the system will be connected via optical fibre network and coordinated. The new system will be controlled by the Traffic Control Centre.
The main aim of the investment is to provide priority for public transport vehicles. The system itself, or the person managing it, will detect delayed vehicles and extend the green light duration in particular communication passages. The system will also detect road accidents and suggest diversionary routes. The traffic manager will have the possibility to relieve congested streets and control traffic intensity in particular districts by shortening or extending lights duration.
Moreover, noticeboards with the information including time to cover particular route, collisions and alternative roads will appear in various places of the city. The system will also include a website with real-time updated information about the situation on the streets.
The Star ITS company, a subsidiary of Qumak S.A., will be responsible for design of the system, works connected with traffic engineering and preparation of databases and individual system modules. Lublin-based companies KZA Przedsiębiorstwo Automatyki i Telekomunikacji S.A. and ELPIE will be partners in the investment and will do construction and installation works connected with building the IT and optical fibre networks, and will redevelop all the junctions covered by the programme.
