Editors of the prestigious British magazine "The Economist" have developed a 12-page supplement devoted to Poland, which describes the biggest successes of Poland in recent years, but also points out the upcoming threats to our country. The journalist Vendeline Von Bredow, who has developed an insert, attempted to write an analysis of Polish success with numerous references to history and to the situation in which Poland found itself after 1989. Extensive fragments have also been devoted to the description of Polish cities as per journalist choice and Lublin was also included in the description.

Lublin in the supplement of "The Economist" has been defined as a driving force for eastern Poland. The city, as the main administrative center in this part of the country, has been classified as a "gateway to Ukraine and Russia." Vendeline Von Bredow also pointed out that already there are more and more Ukrainian students in Lublin and their parents invest in real estate in our city.

The journalist also noted efforts and the work of the Mayor of Lublin Krzysztof Żuk, who tries to help his city to catch up with cities in the west of the country that are doing a little bit better. The author also positively remarked at Lublin Development Strategy for 2013-2020, which she described as a document that contains the ambitious plans for the future, renovation of the beautiful and historic Old Theatre as well as creation of over 4,000 new jobs in the IT sector and BPO / SSC. The journalist equally listed better communication solutions in Lublin, the airport and the ring road as things worth of note.

- It is a great honour for our city. Our work on day to day basis as well as the strategy that we had adopted starts to bear fruit. This is yet another distinction for Lublin on the international stage. A few months earlier on , another opinion-giving magazine belonging to Financial Times group, – fDi Magazine, which specializes in issues of foreign direct investment, singled out Lublin as the best city for foreign direct investment in the "European Cities and Regions of the Future 2014/2015" ranking. I'm sure this is just the beginning - said Krzysztof Żuk, president of Lublin City.

Vendeline Von Bredow also refers to the past and baggage that Lublin was dragging behind when entering a period of economic transformation, seeking at the same time its path and turning potential to success. This is to say, for instance, that potential was understood as the geographical location of Lublin in eastern Poland, which has a lower level of social-economic development than in western Poland. The fact of noticing the changes by the Economist that have in recent years been implemented in Lublin shows that the path that had been chosen back in time is effective.
