Lublin to be the capital of New Circus in 2017

Lublin to be the capital of New Circus in 2017

The international community of circus performers decided that the biggest and the most prestigious events of New Circus culture will occur in Lublin in 2017.

The decision was made through voting during the 38th European Juggling Convention. The Sztukmistrze Foundation, with the support of the Municipality of Lublin City, put forward Lublin as a candidate that superseded the candidacy of the picturesque Azores.

The voting took place during the 38th European Juggling Convention organised in Bruneck, which is located in the province of South Tyrol. The Sztukmistrze Foundation, with the support of the Municipality of Lublin City, put forward Lublin as the candidate.

The Azores Islands, which are a part of Portugal, were another candidate for organising the event. However, Lublin gained the majority of votes and thereby became the host for the European Juggling Convention 2017 (EJC).

The organiser of the convention – The Sztukmistrze Foundation – wants the jubilee 40th European Juggling Convention to become a part of the commemorating of the Lublin’s 700th anniversary. European Juggling Convention 2017 will offer an ample opportunity to encourage both amateurs and professionals, who are the enthusiasts of the art of New Circus to visit Lublin in this significant year.

Lublin residents will have a chance to admire the performances of the greatest artists of New Circus during nine days of the artistic programme. As part of convention, many professional productions will take place including the Main Gala of European Juggling Convention – the greatest gala of the modern circus that is held once a year – as well as a spate of the open air events: fire shows, a grand juggling parade, a juggling competition and street performances.

Lublin hosted the 35th European Juggling Convention in 2012. This edition has been hailed by the international community of New Circus as one of the best editions of the festival. Therefore, the interest in the oncoming convention in 2017 and in the city as such is probably going to grow. The intended European Juggling Convention Lublin 2017 that will take place on 22-30 July is about to attract over 3000 conjurers from all over the world.

European Juggling Convention (EJC) is the greatest and the most prestigious event organised within the community of jugglers, who are amateurs and hobbyists, artists
of New Circus and street performers. The convention is “European” in name alone. It is rather “worldwide” since it is attended by people from all over the world (Europe, Asia, Africa, North America and South America) every year. EJC was organised for the first time in 1978. From that time onwards, the convention is an annual, international meeting of people interested in a broadly defined jugglery. London, Copenhagen, Brussels, Gothenburg, Turin, Athens and Munich have hosted the convention so far.
