The modernisation of the stadium which is to meet international standards will be completed in the middle of 2017. The Authorities of the City have launched the tender procedure which will allow the two-year redevelopment of the athletics stadium located on aleja Piłsudskiego. Municipal stadium will be complementary to the sports facilities that are already in existence in the region: the Olympic Pool, the Ice Hall and the Lublin Arena.

The content of the tender announcement has been provided to be published in the Official Journal of the European Union. Therefore, the names of the companies that would like to be involved into carrying out works within the stadium will be probably known in November. The contractor, who will be selected in the tender procedure, will finish the modernisation work till the middle of 2017.

I believe that the revitalised stadium and training facilities located on ul. Wojciechowska will constitute a training base that will be sufficient for Lublin's athletes. Apart from that, we are going to enable Lublin residents to cheer on during top sports events. The revitalised stadium is another facility in Lublin, which together with the existing ones, will invigorate the city – says Krzysztof Żuk, Mayor of Lublin City.

The track and field stadium is going to be rebuilt and redeveloped, which will create the opportunity to take part in various athletics competitions, including short distance running, long distance running, hammer throw, discus throw, javelin throw, shot put, long jump, high jump, pole vault and multi-discipline contests.

The stadium will be equipped with stands covered by roof, which can hold about 1400 people, lightening, sound system and video surveillance. Internal roads will be rebuilt and 44 parking spots will be created. The new administration and social building with wellness rooms, changing rooms, toilets and rooms for referees will be incorporated into space under the stands.

The stadium will be adjusted to satisfy the requirements of IAAF (International Association of Athletic Federation) for the category III A which will create the possibility to obtain the licence for organisation of sports events such as Polish Junior Championship, Polish Youth Championship, Polish Senior Championship and international meetings.

The project “Reconstruction and Redevelopment of the Athletics Stadium and Facilities on ul. Piłsudskiego 22 in Lublin” will be partially funded by the Fund for Physical Development. Ministry of Sport and Tourism will contribute 10 mln PLN for the project.
