Revitalisation of the Bystrzyca valley

Revitalisation of the Bystrzyca valley
04.03.201512:05

We want to take advantage of a huge potential of the Bystrzyca Valley and open it for the city. As in case of Poznań’s “Malta” created around the Warta river, we would like to create a safe and citizen-friendly place where everyone would find leisure activities meeting their needs. A detailed concept of this area development will be elaborated in cooperation with Lublin residents and district councils. Consultation period has just begun,” said Krzysztof Żuk, Mayor of the City of Lublin.

The city commissioned an experienced Dutch company KuiperCompagnons to prepare an analysis of the possibilities of the Bystrzyca valley revitalisation and to suggest spatial and landscape connections between the valley and the city. The company has recently worked for Poznań, Gdańsk, Rotterdam, Copenhagen, Saint Petersburg, Western Netherlands and Jakarta.

The analysis divides the Bystrzyca valley into 8 areas, each of them being close to another section of the river. Apart from its basic functions, each area has also some additional functions that stem from the historical and natural potential of the area, its surroundings and current development. The first and the last section of the river would be mainly devoted to leisure activities, while central sections would be used to host cultural and entertainment events, as well as to promote historical and tourist aspects of the city.

Public consultation will concern, among others, the following issues: space organisation in particular river sections; flood plains development; creating a bike path from Strzyżewice to Zawieprzyce in Spiczyn commune with the use of existing path; location of beaches and foot and bike bridges along the Bystrzyca river; revitalisation of the areas of Lubelski Klub Jeździecki [Lublin Equestrian Club]; creating a canoe marina; reconstruction of the Royal Pond; revitalisation of Park Bronowice, Park Ludowy, Park Rusałka and Park Zawilcowa; or building Lublin sailing centre.

Please visit by Thursday, April 30, 2015.

There is a series of meetings planned within the public consultation, e.g. meeting with Lublin City Councillors on March 18, meeting with Lublin residents on March 25 and meeting with particular District Councils that will be held in April this year, i.e. after elections to district councils.
