Viva Europa is a cultural initiative which takes place for the third consecutive year within the EU. Its aim is to promote the European Years. 2011 has been designated the European Year of Volunteering (EYV 2011). The project consists in the live transmission of the opera performance staged at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia (Spain) to all the cities participating the project. So far, the following operas were staged: “The Valkyrie” by Richard Wagner and “Carmen” by Georges Bizet.
The participants of the previous editions included cities like Gdańsk, Aarhus, Segovia, Frankfurt and Wrocław. Open-air broadcasts were organized in those cities. Other cities, such as Pamplona, Riga and Eindhoven organized broadcasts in theatres and movie theatres.
