Before the house became the property of the Konopnica family, from which it derived its name, it was owned by many families. It is considered the most beautiful Lublin’s burgher house. The house gained its present appearance after renovation carried out due to a fire that had destroyed most of the buildings of the Old Town. It was in 1575. It was then rebuilt in the Mannerist style. The stone ornaments are forged in limestone. The plant motifs prevail. You can also notice the fairy-tale heads of dragons. Over the windows of the first floor, there are the portraits of Sebastian Konopnica and his wife Katarzyna - the owners of the building. Thanks to them the house has a magnificent Renaissance sculptural decoration of the facade made around 1610. The top of the building is decorated with a magnificent attic.
For a long time, the burgher house was in grey color. However, during its renovation in 2004 its original color was discovered. It was decided to return to this color. Thanks to this decision, the house of the Konopnica family is easily distinguishable from other burgher houses in the Old Market Square. Only this house has such a vivid azure color. It is distinguished not only by bas-reliefs but also by color.
