For the first time the burgher house appeared in written sources in 1521. It was mentioned in the description of the neighbouring building. From the end of the 19th century until the end of the 20th century it belonged to the Riabinin family, distinguished in service to the city. Jan Riabinin, a historian and archivist, researcher of the history of Lublin, lived there.
In 1954, when a significant part of the burgher houses in the Old Town underwent façade renovation, the property was left out. It was only in 1956 that a partial renovation took place and three years later a general renovation was carried out in order to better secure the building. Another major renovation work took place in the years 1997-2001, when the building was adapted to the needs of the Józef Czechowicz Literary Museum.
