The Studio of Socially Engaged Art ”Rewiry” announced in late April a competition for short films.
The competition was held under the third edition of the ”Art on the Market” (Sztuka na giełdzie) project. The theme of the competition was ”Bazarowe historie” (Marketplace stories).
The idea of the competition was born out of witnessing changes in the surrounding reality. We are living in a time when small-scale trade is being gradually replaced by shopping centres. Atmospheric markets and marketplaces are pushed onto the sidelines of trade or simply closed down. Customers are more and more often forced to shop at shopping centres that usually belong to international concerns oriented only at increasing their profits. It is more and more difficult to buy health food straight from farmers as their standing seems to be getting worse every year. The “Marketplace Stories” competition attempts to draw attention to this problem; on the other hand, the entrants were free to interpret the competition’s theme in a broad way.
The total pool of the prizes for the competitors is 7,000 PLN.
The submitted entries were judged by a jury consisting of: Szymon Pietrasiewicz, Kamil Filipowski (Rewiry Studio), Andrzej Rusin, Emilia Żukowska (Kinoteatr Project).
Following long hours of watching the submitted entries and heated discussions, the jury have decided to award the following films:
