The 4th Polish National Singers & Songwriters Festival ”Wschody” will be held at Lublin’s Chatka Żaka Centre from 17 to 19 April. Contest applications must be submitted by 2 April.
The Wschody Festival is an event which is more interesting when experienced onstage, rather than as part of the audience. The contest accompanying the Festival helps discover musical personalities who also win other singer/songwriter contests in Poland. Here, you can only encounter a healthy spirit of competition and make friends with the festival’s organizers. This year the pool of the prizes amounts to 8,500 PLN. The winners will be selected by a Jury consisting of Jan Poprawa, Prof. Urszula Bobryk and Karolina Cicha. The Jurors will also present an award for best accompanist. The winner of the Journalists’ Award will make a live recording of his or her performance.
The aim of the Festival is to convince the public that authors songs are something more than just lyrics and sound, because they combine voice, body and space. Moreover, the event brings sung poetry out of a niche, and thus emphasizes its contemporary dimensions. The 2005 Wschody Festival will kick off with a performance by Karolina Czarnecka.
