The Center for Culture in Lublin announces a casting call for Wojtek Ziemilski’s ”ReMix: Poor Theatre” to be presented at the Theatrical Confrontations International Theatre Festival.

The rehearsals are scheduled October 10 - 12 (2 x 45 mins); children will be prepared for simple acting tasks by the director. About the director Wojtek Ziemilski is a theatre director and visual artist, whose work combines theatre, visual arts and choreography. He completed a course for theatre directors at the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon. He lived in Portugal for quite a long time, where he produced, among others, multimedia performance "Hamlet Light". On his return to Poland, he collaborated with TR Warszawa Theatre, for which he created a video installation titled "Aktorzy" (Actors). Ziemilski conducts workshops on new forms of theatrical experiment at the Zbigniew Raszewski Theatre Institute. He directed the following performances: “Mała Narracja” (Small Narration), “Małpa” (Monkey) and “Prolog” (Prologue). He writes a blog about modern art (new-art.blogspot.com). About the play A few years ago, New York's famous Wooster Group staged ”Poor Theater,” a peculiar remake of “Acropolis,” one of the classic performances by Jerzy Grotowski and Laboratorium Theatre. Wojtek Ziemilski takes it a few steps further. He repeats ”Poor Theatre.” Or, rather, he plays with the concepts of the repetition and the original. In his play, three children and three adults persistently repeat an excerpt from Stanisław Wyspiański’s “Acropolis.” Instructed by the adults, the children slowly take on their culturally defined roles. Is repetition the only way of assimilating culture? “Remix: Poor Theatre” is his first theatre production following the sensational premiere of “Mała Narracja” (Small Narration) at Studio Theatre in Warsaw.
