Peowiaków 12, 20-007 Lublin with the note “plakat Festiwal Sąsiedzi” The fifth edition of the Central Europe Theatre Festival “The Neighbors” refers to the experience that shows the need for artistic activity in the public space; it will keep the basic ideas of the event, but also propose a new theme to be reread by the artists from Central Europe and Scandinavia. This year’s theme is Shakespeare. The English Renaissance theatre is the inspiration and the main theme of the festival. The English Renaissance theater was a democratic theater, open to the audience, to normal, simple people. Shakespeare’s phenomenon was this very understanding of the needs and expectations of such people. We want to present original readings of Shakespeare’s dramas, and works inspired by his works in the spaces which are new and unique. Shakespeare will be the main theme of the performances staged in theaters, circus tents, on the streets, and in the open air. The deadline for posters – March 5, 2010. We would like to present the heritage of Shakespearean era to broad and varied audience. We want to present theater as part of everyday city life, something open to everyone. We want Shakespearean characters and stories to become the main theme of the festival. The world of Shakespeare is not the world of great leaders and intense passions only, but also the world of fantasy and comedy that mixes the elements of clown and fair theater. That is why Shakespeare can be found again in a circus tent or in the street and reread by a new, busy audience. The performances presenting the achievements of our Central European neighbors will be enriched by those prepared by Germans and Scandinavians.
