Alarmed by the tragic situation at the Euromaidan in Kiev
and anxious about the escalation of the conflict, we want Lublin to demonstrate its support for the democratic actions of our Eastern neighbors. The arts and cultural circles of our city have jointly decided to launch a charity initiative named Lubelski EuroMajdan Kulturalny “LEK” (Lublin Cultural Euromaidan).
We ask all residents of Lublin to gather at the square in front of the Centre for Culture in Lublin this Sunday, January 26, at midday. Take your families, children and friends along. If possible, wear the national colours of Ukraine or decorate your clothes with yellow and blue ribbons.
Let’s show that us, Poles, have not yet forgotten our difficult road to freedom and democratic standards. In the light of our dramatic twentieth century history, we are particularly obliged to support Ukrainians in their aspirations for freedom. We can help them the same way we were helped at the time of Solidarność and throughout the period when democratic Poland was nothing but a dream.
Attention! During the event we will collect essential first aid medication. Please bring bandages, dressings, painkillers, anti-inflammatories and vitamins. Winter clothes like warm gloves and hats are welcome, too.
Both the public and participants in the Lublin Cultural Euromaidan will be provided with hot coffee and tea; they will also be able to warm up at the fire or inside the building of the Center for Culture in Lublin.
You are also encouraged to take part in TestamentUA, an initiative undertaken by the Grodzka Gate NN Theatre Centre.
