The 2013 Amnesty International Letter Writing Marathon will be held in Lublin. Residents of Lublin will have an opportunity to help prisoners of consciousness and other individuals all over the world whose human rights have been violated. What they need to do is just attend the Letter Writing Marathon organized by Amnesty International. The 2013 appeals for action include: the Roma community from Wrocław, victims of CIA's secret prisons in Poland, the Bolotnaya 3 from Russia, Jabeur Mejri from Tunisia who was jailed for Facebook posts, and Miriam Lopez – a torture survivor who fights for justice in Mexico. The Letter Writing Marathon is held every December to mark International Human Rights Day. The 14th Letter Writing Marathon will be held December 14-15. During the 24-hour event, people hand-write letters to appeal for action for several selected individuals or groups of people whose human rights have been violated. Out letters do make a difference, they bring about real changes to the situation of individuals whose right we demand. The Letter Writing Marathon is a event that unites the global community against human right violations. The Letter Writing Marathon will be held in over 350 places in Poland and in 60 countries in the world. In Lublin the event will be held at: - headquarters of TVP Lublin (ul. Raabego 2) - Paderewski International Schools (ul. Symfoniczna 1) - Secondary Schools Complex nr 5 (ul. Rzeckiego 10) - Secondary School No. 6 (ul. Mickiewicza 36) - Secondary School No. 1 (Al. Racławickie 26) - Lublin Medical University Collegium Universum (ul. Chodźki 1) - Secondary School No. 23 (ul. Poniatowskiego 5) The event will begin in Lublin at 12 pm at the headquarters of TVP Lublin (Raabego 2). Every year the Letter Writing Marathon contributes to improving the lives of up to several individuals whose human rights have been violated. 189,103 letters were written in over 230 places in Poland last year. The Letter Writing Marathon is the biggest event in Poland that unites so many people to uphold the human rights of individuals. The information will also be available at all premises where the Letter Writing Marathon is to be held. How to write such letter? It is all very simple. First read a description of the individual whose rights you want to appeal for. It is also worth using hints given by Amnesty International. You should observe 5 rules: write short, be kind, draw on facts, show a positive attitude, do not be anonymous – write who you are and what you do. In this way, your letter will be more authentic and it is possible you will receive a reply quickly. You do not have to speak any foreign language. You can write the letter in Polish, highlighting the name of the person whose rights you want to uphold.
