The Workshops of Culture invite ladies in their forties and above to take part in Justyna Jasłowska’s project “On the Pretext of Dancing.” The project involves a series of workshops that will end with a video installation exhibition combined with a performance given by the project’s participants at the Narnia Community Centre and in the district’s public space. During the workshops participants will focus on memories evoked by their personal belongings, particularly those connected with the Kalinowszczyzna district. The participants will attempt to translate into the language of dance the images and recollections revived by reflection on their personal objects. The project is divided into parts. First, we will recall and analyze stories evoked by objects, construct scenarios regarding the objects, make audio and video recordings of the recollections. The second part of the project will involve working with the same artefacts, yet using the language of dance. We will seek for movements suitable for every participant’s own invention, experience and recollections. The participants will use the artefacts to build up their own performative stories, composed of emotions, impressions and images revolving around the stories of their objects as content carriers. We will work on solo and group dance scenes as well as use the recollections to create choreographies based on reflection on the stories of the objects. The project will end with a video installation exhibition set up in the Kalinowszczyzna district, in a venue available to all residents of the district. The exhibition will also include a performance by the project's participants. Dates: 4-13 August, 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM – closed-group workshops for women 18-28 August, 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM – individual work 29-30 August, 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM – project’s end: results presentation All meetings and workshops are held at the Narnia Community Centre in Lublin (12 Lwowska St.).
