Meet the charm of Gaelic songs which in the Scottish tradition were sung by women during tweed waulking.
Waulking was the final stage in the long process of producing homespun cloth. For the women who took part in this process it was an enjoyable social occasion, with plenty of fun and gossip as well as hard work.
The group “Sgioba Luaidh Inbhirchluaidh” (Inverclyde Waulking Group), which specialize in reconstructing Gaelic songs, will lead a workshop on songs sung by women during tweed waulking.
The workshop will take place on the 6th and 7th of October between 2-6pm at the Crossroads Centre.
