Monday, June 13, was an important day for Lublin as a candidate for the European Capital of Culture 2016 title. Our city was visited by the experts - representatives of the Selection Panel: Constatin Chiriac, Andreas Wiesand, Joanna Kiliszek and Jacek Purchla. They came to evaluate our work on the ECC bid. Lublin the first city visited by the experts.
The guests were welcomed by the Mayor of Lublin City - Krzysztof Żuk and then visited the Castle accompanied by the director of the Museum - Zygmunt Nasalski. The next stop was "Grodzka Gate - NN Theater" Center where they were guided by Witold Dąbrowski. The experts saw also the Dominican Monastery, and after lunch met for a short press conference at Litewski Square. At 6.00pm they took part in a meeting with NGOs and informal groups supporting Lublin in the ECC bid.
The visit culminated with a happening in Litewski Square. A few thousand Lubliners came to manifest their support for Lublin. They were imprinting their hands on a huge template to the music of Sambasim. At 9.00pm also the experts appeared in Litewski Square; they imprinted their hands and gave short speeches. They appreciated Lublin's efforts and praised the engagement of the citizens. Then, the crowd walked to the Old Town.
