East of Culture – Different Sounds Art’n’Music Festival 2017: “Hatred” Soundtrack and “Out out to Lunch” Live
29.05.201711:45

Original music score for “Hatred” performed by Mikołaj Trzaska and Sejny Theatre Klezmer Orchestra and concert performances of “Out out to lunch” by Mazzoli & Arhythmic Perfection are the next acts joining the line-up of this year’s edition of East of Culture – Different Sounds that make a part of the 2017 celebration of the 700th anniversary of Lublin.

East of Culture – Different Sounds presents original artists from all over the world. Eastern Europe meets the West, unique music from Africa and Asia finds its reflection in British and American music, where genres, language and styles mix. Every year, we also have a strong representation from Poland, with local music being an essential and inseparable part of the festival programme.

This year the Festival will feature two yass music legends presenting their two unique projects. They are the saxophone and clarinet player Mikołaj Trzaska and the clarinettist Jerzy Mazzoll. The former will perform live the Orzeł-awarded original music score from “Hatred” along with the Sejny Theatre Klezmer Orchestra. Trzaska has proven on many occasions that he is peerless when it comes to creating the perfect music score to illustrate and enhance the mood of a movie. His collaboration with Wojciech Smarzowski thus far has produced such excellent music scores as “Rose”  or “The Dark House”. The “Hatred” soundtrack is, on the one hand, a humble and minimalist work but on the other, a work rich in subtleties and authentic sounds of the borderlands, which to a large extent results from Trzaska’s excellent communication with the Sejny orchestra.

The second Polish project, the legendary Mazzoll & Arhythmic Perfection, will debut with material recorded on their album “Out out to lunch”. This band is one of the most important yass and jazz music bands of the last 25 years, and the album they released in 1996 has recently celebrated its 20th anniversary.  Interestingly, they have never played this music live in entirety and it will debut live only at Different Sounds. Arhythmic Perfection will appear in Lublin in all its splendour featuring its strongest line-up. Aside from Mazoll on the clarinet, we will hear Sławek Janicki on double bass, Tomasz Gwiciński on the drums and Janusz Zdunek on the trumpet. The deceased Jacek Majewski will be replaced by Kuba Janicki on percussion instruments.

East of Culture – Different Sounds Art’n’Music Festival will take place on 5-9 July, 2017. All events are free. The programme of the 5-day Festival includes exclusive concerts by artists from 14 countries and 3 continents. The line-up inlcudes such artists as Juno Reactor, Nouvelle Vague, Mulatu Astatke and the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain. As usual, the festival is also a showcase for interesting record labels. This year it features the Belgian label Crammed Discs represented by Tuxedomoon, Kasai Allstars, Skip & Die, Aksak Maboul and Aquaserge. The line-up also includes such bands as Moulettes, Gromyka and Ventolin.

This is not the final announcement. The full line-up will be available soon at innebrzmienia.eu.

East of Culture Different Sounds Art’n’Music Festival is a part of the 2017 celebration of the city of Lublin’s 700th anniversary. In this unique year we wish to draw inspiration from our heritage, bolster a sense of pride in Lublin and develop the city for future generations.
