East of Culture – Different Sounds Art’n’Music Festival 2017 Headliners Revealed!
01.03.201714:20

The East of Culture – Different Sounds Art’n’Music Festival 2017 is approaching fast. On July 5-9, 2017 Lublin will host artists from 14 countries and 3 continents. The most important representatives of such music genres as new wave, afro-jazz, electronic music, avant-rock and world music will give exclusive performances in Lublin.

As usual the Festival will also be an opportunity to discover the most interesting cultural and artistic phenomena from the Eastern Partnership countries. The East of Culture – Different Sounds Art’n’Music Festival 2017 will focus on topics such as neighbourhood or the uniqueness of artists resulting from their backgrounds and cultures they represent, motifs inspired by the heritage of Lublin which is celebrating its 700th anniversary this year.

Like every year, the Festival’s programme will be varied and original, aiming to cross musical borders and challenge stereotypes. The past editions of the Festival featured artists who set new trends and styles through their work. This year, too, we will have the pleasure of hosting bands which are considered to be pioneers or absolute masters of their genres.

The first headliner of this year’s  Festival is Juno Reactor, the legend of goa trance and psychedelic music. The former term is prominently used when referring to the band’s cult album, “Transmissions”, released in 1993.  The band have been active for over 25  years, giving concerts on all the continents and collaborating with many artists. They have recorded original soundtracks for films such as  “The Matrix Reloaded,” “The Matrix Revolutions,” “Brave Story,” “Once Upon a Time in Mexico: Desperado 2,” “Mortal Kombat” and “Texhnolyze.” At the exclusive show in Lublin, they will present their special project and perform together with the excellent dance and theatre group Mutant Theatre.

Another headliner is the French collective Nouvelle Vague, widely popular for their excellent original arrangements of big hits in such genres as new wave, punk and post-punk and new romantic. The musicians offer bold rearrangements of legendary songs by The Clash, Joy Division, Depeche Mode, Killing Joke and many others, frequently reaching for acoustic sounds, subtle vocals, bossa nova ‐ like melodies and, sometimes, more dance-like rhythms. Their live shows are a journey to a beautiful, melodic and somewhat dreamlike world filled with the most important independent music of the last 40 years.  When founding the band in 2003, French artists and music producers  Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux  could not have suspected how successful it would become. Today, Nouvelle Vague enjoy enthusiastic reception wherever they appear and their show in Lublin will be the only opportunity to see them play live in Poland this season.

More headliners will be announced soon. Our long list includes many truly original artists!

The East of Culture – Different Sounds Art’n’Music Festival 2017 will be held on 5-9 July 2017.

Admission to all events is free of charge.

The East of Culture is a cultural project integrating artists from three cities in East Poland (Białystok, Lublin and Rzeszów) and member states of the Eastern Partnership (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldavia and Ukraine). The project is executed by the National Centre for Culture and the above three Polish cities. Its aim is to present and help discover unique aspects of each culture as well as to facilitate the exchange of artistic experiences. Over time, the Festival has become a bridge connecting our Eastern partners with broader European culture. 2017 marks the 5th edition of the East of Culture. The project has been made possible thanks to the involvement and support of creative groups, local governments in Eastern Poland as well as the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
