Main celebrations commemorating the 450th anniversary of the Union of Lublin were held in Lublin on July 1. The Lithuanian Square turned into a large camp of nobles and knights as a reconstruction place of the camps of the Polish and Lithuanian nobles.
Inhabitants of Lublin had the opportunity to get acquainted with the customs of the 16th century, watch the shows of contemporary robes, knight’s re-enactments, demonstrations of old crafts, court dances, participate in games and activities related to the Union times.
The Day began with the Mass at the Basilica of Dominicans combined with Ecumenical Prayer and the premiere of the oratory "Bridges" by Piotr Selim.
A worldwide meeting of representatives of Poles was held in the Crown Tribunal. Among those honoured with the Medal of the Union of Lublin, were active people working to keep close contacts with Poles abroad.
The Lublin City Council ceremonial session took place in the courtyard of the Lublin Castle with numerous foreign delegations, representatives of the Polish community and invited guests. Partner cities and Friend cities were awarded the Medal of the Union of Lublin. A fragment of speech in Polish made by the Mayor of Vilnius Mr. Remigijus Šimašius, was a pleasant gesture to the hosts and citizens.
After a group photo taken on the stairs leading to the Castle of Lublin, foreign delegations participated in a colourful procession to the Łokietek Square. There, a commemorative plaque of the Union of Lublin was unveiled on the side wall of the Town Hall building. Subsequently, wreaths and flowers were laid at the monument of the Union of Lublin on Lithuanian Square. The ceremony ended with the air show by Acrobatic Team ISKRA.
At the end of the Day a special concert of the Lithuanian - Polish Youth Orchestra conducted by Gediminas Gelgotas was performed in the Lublin Philharmonic.
