The Art Festival in Public Spaces “Open City” will take place from June 22 to June 25. It is the biggest presentation of contemporary art in Lublin which takes place not in galleries and museums but outside. The open city, a military term, becomes a room for maneuvers for artists and it undergoes artistic interventions and transformations.
A work of art, when placed in a living space, evolves and grows in power; it absorbs feelings and emotions and undermines the inviolable city space proving its heterogeneity.
The festival comprises various realizations in the city space: installations, sculptures, objects, posters, shows in the city center, actions, performance workshops and screenings of films. Artists will use billboards, poster pillars, as well as functional spaces like streets, squares, buildings and green areas. Some of the works will appear just for the festival, some will become a permanent part of Lublin space.
Artists from all over the world have been invited to take part in the event. Among them are Janusz Bałdyga, Redas Dirżys (Lithuania), Nezaket Ekici
(Turkey/Germany), Elżbieta Jabłońska, Dariusz Kociński, Vlodko Kaufmann
