Spain has chosen its European Capital of Culture 2016. The title has been awarded to San Sebastian. Agata WIll says that it's a good choice. The city of the Basque Country focused on civic society, cooperation with the citizens and human rights. San Sebastian's program is similar to Lublin's "City in Dialogue" program.
The motto of San Sebastian is Waves of Energy. Agata Will who has cooperated with Spanish candidates says that the selection might have been based not only on the program but also on the location. San Sebastian is located in the Basque Country. This region has a significant political autonomy and the city will represent Spain. It may suggest that the experts appreciate the willingness to identify with Spain.
Although Lublin has not been granted the title, we will continue the established cooperation. We have already planned some projects concerning human rights, remembrance, history. Lublin and Wrocław were the only cities that established cooperation with Spanish ECC candidates.
