Lublin is on the shortlist for the European Capital of Culture 2016 competition. We have 9 months to complete and elaborate on our application.
“It is a great distinction and confirmation that the changes we have introduced to the city are needed,” said Włodzimierz Wysocki, the Deputy Mayor of Lublin City shortly after the shortlist was announced. “We have hoped to achieve this success since the very beginning as we believe that our city deserves this title” he added.
The presentations of the candidate cities took place on October 12 and 13 at the Grand Theater in Warsaw. The cities presented their ideas concerning ECC to the selection panel consisting of 11 members. The presentations lasted 30 minutes and were followed by questions asked by the experts.
Lublin’s presentation took place on October 12 at 3.45pm. Today, on October 13, at 5.00pm the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Bogdan Zdrojewski, announced the shortlist. Lublin will compete with Gdańsk, Katowice Wrocław, and Warsaw. The cities have 9 months to prepare a more detailed application. The winner will be designated next autumn. What will happen now? We will have to work even harder and introduce further changes to the city; changes that are already unstoppable.
