Monika Drożyńska “Lornetka”, a part of the “Grodzka 5” project.
The project is a commentary to a space of the Workshops of Culture and is available for visits on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
A work by Monika Drożyńska entitled Lornetka (Binoculars) is a small artistic intervention in the space of a tenement building at 5, Grodzka Street, in a place which was, until now, available only to a few people, and which is located on the second floor of an internal staircase. There is a heavy, wooden door and a stair landing there. Judging from the structure of the building, this place is situated in the exact middle of the three buildings our project is revolved around– Grodzka Street numbers 3, 5 and 5A. When you step on the doorstep of the open door, you will be able to see a joining point of the three buildings in a type of cross-section. The door, however, is usually closed.
“Lornetka” is a pair of spyholes installed in the door that allow you to take a peek into the reality behind the door. The view, however, is fragmentary and seemingly incomprehensible. For that reason, viewers have to assemble the whole picture on their own, in the same way as it is done with pictures of past in our mind.
Monika Drożyńska is a well-known visual artist of young generation. Among others, she participated in Silesia Art Biennale (Wrocław, Legnica 2013). In her works, she often approaches social issues and enters into public space. She is based in Krakow.
“Grodzka 5″ is a long-term project, which will consist of a series of individual interventions performed by invited artists. A publication and a larger exhibition will also be a part of the project.
