The film is a story about Erika Kohut, a forty-year-old piano professor at a Vienna music conservatory. Still living with her domineering mother, she struggles with her repressed sexuality. When one of her students tries to start a sexual relationship with her, she agrees but under condition that he accepts the rules of her game. Their relationship is broken off when Erika reveals her masochistic inclinations.
