The exhibition is part of a social and art project titled “Tbilisi-Kiev-Lublin.”
The exhibition displays a selection of art works commissioned as part of the international project undertaken jointly by the Centre for Arts Book in Tbilisi and the Municipal Public Library in Lublin, in cooperation with the Ukrainian National Museum of Art in Kiev. All the presented works were created in February 2014 as the artists’ commentary on the-then current events unfolding at Kiev’s Maidan.
The exhibition was first unveiled in Tbilisi. Subsequently, the works of Georgian artists were displayed in the street nearby the Maidan Square, where they were gradually complemented by other works created by both the residents of Kiev and demonstrators themselves.
The Lublin-based part of the project involved creating a ten-metre-long panorama depicting the protesters gathered at Kiev’s burning Maidan. The panorama was then inscribed with the thoughts of Ukrainian students living in Lublin and – as days passed – with the opinions of the residents of Lublin. Many of the inscriptions were translated into a number of languages by the artists and curators involved in the project.
