Andrzej Kot was born in Lublin, where he still lives and works. Kot graduated from the State Secondary School of Fine Arts and his career path includes typesetting practice with the Lublin Printing Factory as well as a long-time collaboration with the Voivodship Cultural Centre and art studios of several companies in Lublin.

His artistic interests include the works of Jan Młodożeniec, Jerzy Jaworowski, Janusz Stanny, Leon Urbański, Jan Lenica and Adam Kilian. Andrzej Kot designs bookplates, various forms of applied graphic design and calligraphy. Among others, he has designed five remarkably original alphabets: Ot-Kot, Lot-Kot, Iza (Polish alphabet with Hebrew motifs), Neo, Leotywy, Kozina (goat-graphy). Nonetheless, these are his bookplates that are most acknowledged and popular with collectors.

Andrzej Kot’s drawings are marked by undeniable charm and wit, a pinch of poetry and a distinctive style produced using very simple means of expression. In the 1980s he published a booklet with his drawings, ”Prawdziwa cnotka nie boi się kotka” (A Real Goody-Goody Is Not Afraid of Cats), with layout and typesetting by Leon Urbański. The artist has exhibited at the Biennal of Humour and Satire in Gabrov, Bulgaria. Also he has also participated three times in the Brno Biennal of Applied Graphic Design. Kot’s works have been shown at bookplate congresses in Weimar, London and Saint Petersburg. He has also had several solo exhibitions across Poland. His works have been published in such trade magazines as New York’s Upper & Lower Case, California’s Fried Caligrafic, Hungarian Magyar Grafik and Interpressgrafik, or Tokyo’s Idea.

The exhibition runs until 31 December 2014.
