The aim of the exhibition is to introduce the public to the interesting process of creating animated films. The exhibition shows only some of the ideas, drawings and projects that were created during the two-year work on the film, particularly in the preparatory stage of the very animation process.
Przemek Kotyński, who directed the film, was also responsible for the film’s artistic form. After a close study of the script, the artist tried to put the atmosphere of the film into his own projects. The inter-war Lublin, where the plot is set, is saturated with the atmosphere of noir, whereas the characters and projects from the retrospective part are portrayed in a totally different, very much painting-like way. This was made possible thanks to beautiful drawings by Olaf Ciszak that added life to Celina Skiba’s 2D animation.
The creative process involves producing a number of drawings and auxiliary drafts such as storyboards. Storyboards help plan the rhythm of shots and camera work. They are like the graphic outline, map of a film. The film is drawn up scene by scene in form of a cartoon.
The exhibition runs from 4 to 19 December 2014.
