The Old Theatre invites you to a meeting titled "The truth of literature, the truth of the screen.” Held this Tuesday at 6 pm, the meeting is part of the “Battle for Literature” series. The discussion will focus, among others, on the problems filmmakers face when they adapt novels for the screen. Free tickets to the event can be picked up at the Old Theatre's box office.
We know of cases when excellent books are adapted into poor, if not terrible films, and vice versa: poor novels are adapted into remarkable films.
The fact that filmmakers start adapting Polish literature for the screen, just to mention Wojtek Smarzowski’s recent outstanding film ”Pod mocnym aniołem,” can be interpreted as a good sign for Polish cinematography and, at the same time, a hope for Polish literature. Borys Lankosz, the director of the terrific ”Rewers”, decided to make a screen adaptation of the novel ”Ziarno prawdy” by Zygmunt Miłoszewski, one of the most eminent and popular crime novel writer. What did it result in? Are we about to witness the marriage of Polish literature and cinema similar to the one which took place in the golden age of Polish cinematography?
Krzysztof Varga, the curator of the literary programme of the Old Theatre.
Host: Krzysztof Varga
Guest: Borys Lankosz
The event will be streamed live on the Old Theatre’s website.
