The Hieronim Łopaciński Public Library in Lublin invites you to an exhibition entitled "Andrzej Kot 1946-2015. In Memoriam".

Andrzej Kot (born 21 November 1946 in Lublin, died 17 February 2015 in Lublin) was a graphic artist, calligrapher, typesetter, typographer, and book illustrator. Starting from the 1978 Biennial of Applied Graphic Art in Brno, he participated in the majority of graphic art events worldwide. In 1981 he was awarded the Golden Medal from the International Biennial of Bookplates in Malbork.

Kot’s bookplates and drawings were published in numerous European and worldwide journals, including the German Scriptura Calendar, Hungarian Magyar Grafik, New York’s Upper&LowerCase, California's Fried Caligrafic, Sarmatian Houston or Idea from Tokio. He was the only Polish artist to have been featured in the 1995 monograph by Joseph Kiermeier-Debre and Fritz Franz Vogel “Das alphabet. Die Bildwelt der Buchstaben von A bis Z” (he was appreciated for alphabets such as Ot-Kot, Lot-Kot, Iza and Kozina). In 1986 Andrzej Matyń published a book about Andrzej Kot and his bookplates, ”Prawdziwa cnotka nie boi się kotka.” On 27 January 2008 Andrzej Kot was given the Lublin Angelus Award for Best Artist of the Year.

The exhibition is prepared from the collections of the Hieronim Łopaciński Public Library in Lublin which has been collecting Kot's works for years. A special contribution to the preparation of the exhibition is credited to Jacek Wałdowski, head of the Library’s art room and, most of all, a friend of late Andrzej Kot.

The exhibition runs until 30 April in the Library’s opening hours. Free admission.
