Costa-Gavras has shown himself to be one of the most uncompromising, socially and politically involved film makers. On many occasions, he touched on difficult, controversial topics. In the Oscar-winning “Missing”, he portrayed putsch and a bloody revolution in Chile of the 1970s. In “Betrayed”, he attacked racism and laid bare the activities of Ku Klux Klan in contemporary America, whereas “Music Box” touched on the theme of war criminals who are hiding and shirking taking responsibility. The filmmaker has also La Petite Apocalypse, based on the novel by Tadeusz Konwicki. His latest picture is an image of soulless, capitalist financial machine, represented by the eponymous banker. Greed, ruthlessness and dishonesty are commonplace in a word ruled by money.
