“Fiddler on the Roof” is one of the most popular musicals based on a work by the Yiddish writer Sholem Aleichem. Set in the last century’s Imperial Russia, the production portrays the daily life of the inhabitants of Anatevka – both Jews and Christians. The main protagonists are the dairyman Tevye, his wife Golda and their young daughters. But the protagonists of “Fiddler on the Roof”, as the dairyman says at the beginning, also include other people. “If I Were a Rich Man,” one of the most recognizable songs in the world, is the central piece of the production. Equally beautiful and moving songs are “Sunrise, Sunset” and the closing piece “Anatevka”.
The Lublin premiere of “Fiddler on a Roof” produced by Zbigniew Czeski was held at the legendary Dom Kultury Kolejarza in 1994. The same, albeit somewhat different, and still popular production has been staged in theatre since 2002.
