Playing Maggie (Grając Maggie)

The production is more than a show or a lady's portrait, it's an audience with Margaret Thatcher. She divided the nation like no other politician before. Some people adore her, others hate her. Who was she then? A saviour or a tyrant? Pip Utton does not answer these questions clearly, he only portrays her character. The audience is given an opportunity to learn about her philosophy, inspiration and logic. Not only does Pip Utton take on the role of Margaret Thatcher, as the "Iron Lady" he also takes the risk of talking to the audience. Pip Utton IS the "Iron Lady."

Runtime: 60 minutes

Pip Utton is an English actor and writer. He specializes in the creation of plays about expressive historical and literary figures. His monodramas about Francis Bacon, Charlie Chaplin, Winston Churchill, Karol Dickens and Adolf Hitler have been played all over the world, winning him numerous prizes and awards.

Project T1A: HISTORY is a series of stage performances in the form of one-actor theatre, devoted to the history of the twentieth century. Josef Stalin and Stalinist repressions, Margaret Thatcher, the Holocaust and Maria Curie Sklodowska are the characters and themes we want to introduce to the audience in Lublin through the art of monodrama – a full-fledged theatrical form which – due to its more intimate character – encourages a more profound experience of the content and story.

The project is co-financed from the funds of the National Centre for Culture Poland under the 2018 Culture Interventions Programme.
