Tom Canty, a young boy who earns his family’s living by begging and stealing, lives in one of the worst districts of London. At the same time, the royal court is inhabited by the young Prince of Wales Edward, son of Henry VIII. One day, quite by chance, the boys meet and it turns out that they look almost identical. As a result of the exchange of their clothes, the prince ends up on the street while the beggar takes to the salons. How will they cope with the new reality? Can they get back to their normal life, or will they always have to pretend to be someone they are not?
