The event accompanies the exhibition The State We Are In. The Collection of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw at Galeria Labirynt in Lublin.
The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw is one of the youngest art institutions in this part of Europe. Since 2009, it has been building its collection, which also includes archives and films. The art of the creators of the younger generation remains in relation to the heritage of outstanding art figures of the twentieth century: Oskar Hansen (in architecture), Andrzej Wróblewski (painting), Zofia Rydet (photography) or Alina Szapocznikow (sculpture). Joanna Mytkowska’s presentation focuses on the experience of building a new institution and its stepping out beyond the field of art (involvement in urban policies, architecture or academic activity) in relation to the art collection created by the museum.
Joanna Mytkowska is the director of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, curator of numerous exhibitions and author of many curatorial texts.
