Just like thousands of years ago, today every person is counting something every now and then – time, money, distances, book pages, and recently even steps and calories. Thanks to numbers, we organize the world using various tools. One of the basic counting tools is the abacus. The oldest abacus was a wooden plate with grooves through which small pebbles were moved. The best-known abacus in Poland is the Slavic abacus which has ten beads in a row. And what abacus do you decide to make? The Abacus Montessori or the Japanese soroban? Or maybe just a sorter with sticks?

We invite you with your children to this DIY workshop. Together, you will create an abacus, find out what abaci are used in the world and what's more – you will learn how to count using them!
