Concept

The initiative aims to increase the civic involvement of young people in local communities, in terms of being active with the support and use of Norwegian experiences.

In 2021, Lublin was awarded the title of the European Youth Capital  2023 (EYC 2023). The Competition Committee appreciated the application in which Lublin presented a program created by young people. It included a number of activities involving young people in social activities, stimulating their creativity and civic attitudes in the spirit of tolerance and mutual respect. Lublin as the first European Youth Capital in Poland, thanks to the support and experience of a partner from Norway - the European Wergeland Center (EWC) has a chance to become not only a regional but also a European leader in creating and implementing youth policies and carrying out activities of an integrative and inclusive nature .

The need to implement the actions proposed below appeared during meetings, talks and consultations with youth from Lublin, youth organizations and their international partners during the preparations for obtaining the title of EYC 2023. The proposed actions are also influenced by the difficult situation in Ukraine related to the invasion of Russia. Thanks to the activities carried out under the Initiative, we want Lublin to become a city that invests in young people's ideas, strengthens and develops their competences, as well as a place for integration and international youth meetings.

The specific goals of the initiative correspond to the problems defined in preparation for the obtaining EYC 2023 title:

  • Creating a space for meetings, integration and cooperation of young people in Lublin by establishing the so-called "Youth Space";
  • Increasing the number of youth initiatives by launching the "School Participatory Budget" program;
  • Raising the level of knowledge of young people and people working with young people from Lublin and the  Lublin Voivodeship in the field of, among others: civic education, implementation of own initiatives, volunteering, labor market, career counseling and integration through the activities of the Youth Information and Development Center (YIDC);
  • Intensification of cooperation, exchange of experiences and good practices between young people and people working with youth from EEA countries (Poland, Norway) and Ukraine by organizing international events, study visits and youth exchanges and the Cross-Border Cooperation Congress  (CBCC) organized in Lublin.
