July 1, 2018 marks the 449th anniversary of the agreement between the states of the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, signed in 1569 at the General Seym in Lublin. Historical literature unequivocally defines the "Union of Lublin" as one of the most important events in the history of Poland and Europe. It is also one of the most important events in the history of Lublin, which permanently introduced the name of the city to the history of Europe and the world. Considering the rank and importance of this event, on October 22, 2015, the Lublin City Council adopted Resolution No. 292/X/2016 on establishing July 1 as the Day of the Union of Lublin. On June 30 and July 1, 2018, celebrations were held in Lublin as part of the official city celebrations of the anniversary of the conclusion of the Union of Lublin.
